TOTEM OF IRIDECENT CROWN
This horsehair raku totem blends smooth, smoke‑marked clay with a dramatic, crown‑like formation at its peak. Its marbled surface bears smoky trails left by burning horsehair.  Above the rounded form rises a dark, mineral‑textured crown, giving the piece its sculptural presence and name.

This sculptural ceramic totem reimagines the traditional horsehair firing technique, once reserved for uniform, functional vases, into a celebration of organic irregular forms.

The surface is prepared with terra sigillata infused with minerals. The vessel is pulled red-hot from the kiln and the horsehair is laid across the ceramic body, igniting on contact and leaving smoky black carbon trails. They dance across the form like ancient markings. The minerals respond to the heat and smoke, drawing a subtle, iridescent sheen—a pearl-like luster. Subtle iridescence from mineral-infused terra sigillata adds a quiet glow, making this totem a singular expression of earth transformation.

Handmade ceramics are always more than just tableware or décor. It is a creative process of transforming a ball of clay into an object of art. My ceramic vessels are elegant but they are bold at the same time. They are beautiful accents to any home décor.
