Horsehair Raku Ceramic Stone Vase

My goal in my ceramic artwork is to call upon a past experience or emotion. Every ceramic piece is filled with my positive energy and creative spirit.

These horsehair raku vases are created using a unique firing process. The vases were built by coiling, pinching and impressing clay on a real stone.  The terra sigillata applied in a few coats to bone dry clay and then burnished creating very smooth surface. The vessel was fired again at raku kiln and pulled from the kiln while still glowing hot. The horsehair were placed on the surface, igniting and leaving black carbon designs. No two pieces of Raku will ever be alike.

Raku ceramics by their creative process and their very nature serve only for decorative purposes and are not intended to be used for food. Keep your piece out of direct sunlight will keep the metals in the glaze from oxidizing and colors strong and vibrant. The vase body is porous and not intended to hold water.

These little sculptural vases look beautiful as a group.
