Two dome shaped pieces were connected into a stone shape.

Water glass (sodium silicate) was painted on the outside and then heated very quickly with a heat gun. I expanded the form from the inside out while spinning the wheel causing the outside surface to crack. After the piece was bisque-fired, The vase was glazed inside and refried at 2250F.

I have developed a finishing technique after experimenting for a long time trying to achieve the desired surface. The stoneware vase is hand built and shaped as beach stones. While still in a wet stage they were rolled in fine crumbs of dry clay of different colors. Then various slips and under glazes were layered on top of the leather hard clay. Four stones are stacked and attached. They are hollow inside and glazed.
This piece represents nature’s balance showing how imperfect forms can be beautiful and full of meaning.
The vase size is: 11 tall by 6″.
