DRIED. Ceramic Blue Weathered Vase

The source of my inspiration is Mother Nature – its magical beauty, harmony, strength and power.
Ceramics is about tactility, beauty, and subjectivity. This organic nature-inspired vase resembles drying cracked earth and water basins. The natural and spontaneous cracks retain the elegant quality of nature’s work.

I used a sodium silicate method to create this beautiful surface. After the tall skinny form was thrown on the wheel. Water glass (sodium silicate) was painted on the outside and then heated very quickly with a heat gun. I expanded the form from the inside out while spinning the wheel causing the outside surface to crack. After the piece was bisque fired, The vase was glazed inside and refried at 2250F.

It is a functional vase and looks gorgeous with a flower arrangement. You can also use it as a beautiful piece of art in your home decoration.
