My weekend walks on Encinitas Moonlight Beach inspired me to do this body of work. This zen-looking stacked stones CAIRN ceramic vase reminds you of California beach stones.remind you of California beach stones. They would be a unique gift and/or a gorgeous addition to your home decor or garden.

I have developed this finishing technique after experimenting for a long time trying to achieve the desired surface. This stoneware vase is hand-built and shaped as beach stones. While still in a wet stage, the stones were rolled in fine crumbs of dry clay of different colors. Then various slips and under glazes were layered on top of the leather hard clay.

This piece represents nature’s balance showing how imperfect forms can be beautiful and full of meaning.

The vase size is: 11 tall by 6″.

The source of my inspiration is Mother Nature – its magical beauty, harmony, strength and power. Above all, ceramics are about tactility, beauty, and subjectivity. My goal in my ceramic sculpture is to call upon experience or emotion.

I have developed a finishing technique after experimenting for a long time trying to achieve the desired surface. This stoneware vase is hand-built and shaped as beach stones. While still in a wet stage, I rolled the stones in fine crumbs of dry clay of different colors. Next, I applied various slips and under glazes that were layered on top of the leather hard clay.

This vase represents nature’s balance showing how imperfect forms can be beautiful and full of meaning. The photos do not speak the justice. If you put the beach stone next to the vase you will not be able to tell the difference between the real stone and the ceramic vase.

You can fill it with water and put a few flowers in. I suggest that you fill up only the bottom stone. It has much better glazing on the bottom and it is well-sealed.

The vase size is: 11 tall by 6″.
